Esther Aarts | Senior researcher
Esther Aarts studied medical biology at the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. She graduated in 2004 and then started her PhD project under supervision of Miranda van Turennout and Ardi Roelofs at the Donders Institute, studying cue-based adjustments in cognitive control with fMRI. After obtaining her PhD, Esther worked as a post-doc with Roshan Cools (2008 - 2010) and as a post-doctoral fellow at UC Berkeley (2010-2012) with Mark D'Esposito on the interaction between motivation and cognition. In 2012, she returned to Roshan Cools' lab with an AXA and NWO-Veni grant to focus on the effects of food reward on cognition. As a senior researcher, Esther now leads the food-related projects in the Cools lab.
